Mr. Biden, sensitive technology and how the Marianas may want to think about semiconductors
Our island location is prime to create advantage
Hafa Adai,
The Marianas Islands is relatively near China and Taiwan compared to the continental U.S. We are already at war economically with China. One example of this war is Mr. Biden’s recent decision to slap limits on American firms that sell sensitive advanced microchip components to China such as advanced computing chips, chipmaking equipment and other equipment.
This will stymie sales for American firms and it may cause China to move into taking more agressive action against the United States.
China, in addition to having a peer military in the region that can do as much damage as the Americans in the general region. We need to remember that China is no longer that far behind the U.S. when it comes to technology and China is no longer at the bottom of the supply chain.
China is challenging American supremacy on many fronts including telecom, 5G, artifical intelligence, etc. etc.
The Chinese want to simply steal U.S. technology if it can help them seek advantage on the high technology war that is currently ongoing.
The Marianas is caught in the middle. Our island chain is ground zero and also a major land installation when it comes to informational warfare being conducted.
We may be best served by getting our young people stood up and proficient when it comes learning as much as possible when it comes to high end computing and high technology.

Lots of people have this false impression of China being high tech in computing and chip manufacturing. They are not. Their niche is medium capability chips. They get the high end stuff from Taiwan, Korea, Japan, and the United States. Restrict those flows to China and you strangle their high end electronics manufacturing.
Just do it!
